West Ham ‘remain interested’ in Harry Maguire and could return for the Manchester United defender in an effort to replace Kurt Zouma, according to reports.
David Moyes’ side saw a £30million bid for the defender accepted over the summer, however the prospective move fell through. The 30-year-old was unable to agree terms on a severance package with United and eventually decided to stay and fight for his place under Erik ten Hag.
That decision hasn’t quite gone to plan, however, with minutes still limited despite an injury crisis in defence. He has made just four appearances so far this season and played fewer minutes than Jonny Evans.
But there could be a way out in January, with 90min reporting that West Ham could return for the United man in January. The Hammers are aware of Saudi Arabian interest in Kurt Zouma and Maguire has been pencilled in as the potential successor to the Frenchman.
Elsewhere, TEAMtalk reports that United are one of several sides keeping an eye on the development of Schalke youngster Assan Ouedraogo.
The 17-year-old is currently enjoying a breakout season with the 2.Bundesliga side, playing nine times and scoring his first-ever senior goal to become the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer – a record previously held by Julian Draxler. At 6ft 4in, Ouedraogo is a physical and commanding box-to-box midfielder who is thought very highly of by the Schalke staff.
United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all said to be on ‘high alert’ regarding the teenager, but will face a tough task in discussing a deal with Schalke, who have already tied their star down to a long-term contract that will become official when he turns 18 in May next year.
