Although Manchester United was unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Frenkie de Jong last summer, they appear to be persistent in their pursuit of the Dutch midfielder.
In addition, they are also considering a move for another Barcelona player, Ronald Araujo.
According to reports from El Pais (via Mundo Deportivo), Manchester United is gearing up for a massive €500 million spending spree this summer and is targeting both Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, despite the pair indicating their desire to stay at the Spanish club.
Manchester United’s interest in de Jong dates back to last summer, following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the manager.
The club had even reached an agreement with Barcelona, who were in need of a major sale at the time.
However, the midfielder refused to leave and has reiterated his intention to stay at Barcelona.
In the case of Araujo, the Uruguayan defender is considered one of the best in the world.
Although his new contract has not yet been registered, several clubs are monitoring his situation closely.
However, Araujo has expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona and has no intention of leaving anytime soon.
“I am currently under contract at Barça until June 2026, and there is a possibility of extending the agreement.
Although the renewal contract has not yet been officially confirmed and registered, I believe it will be done soon. I am extremely content here,” he stated.
Barcelona is expected to make some significant sales this summer.
Nevertheless, Araujo and de Jong are regarded as indispensable members of the team, and no amount of money offered by Manchester United would be enough to persuade the club to sell the duo.
