Man United make Diogo Costa top transfer target.c

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa this summer.

The Portuguese international has a release clause worth €75 million in his contract, meaning that United should expect to pay a handsome sum for his services.

While David de Gea has been Manchester United’s number one goalkeeper for the past 12 seasons, there have been some calls for change ahead of next season.

Rumours of the Spaniard penning a new deal continue to circulate, but manager Erik ten Hag has previously stated that his keeper isn’t guaranteed a starting spot.

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, United have moved into pole position to land Costa. The 23-year-old is due to play his final game for Porto on Sunday before potentially making the switch to Old Trafford.

Newcastle United and Chelsea are said to have maintained a long-term interest in signing the Portuguese star, but it is United who are favourites to secure his signature.

Costa seems an ideal fit for Manchester United, having kept an impressive 20 clean sheets in 41 appearances this season. During this campaign, the sought-after stop-stopper has conceded only 30 goals.

De Gea recently won the Premier League Golden Glove, keeping 17 clean sheets. However, the Spaniard has also made some high-profile mistakes against Sevilla and West Ham United.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has regularly criticised De Gea and reiterated the point that it could be time to pursue a new number one.

Costa could well be the answer to Manchester United’s goalkeeper dilemma. He is a competent ball-playing goalkeeper who is assured in the art of long-ball distribution. If he chooses Old Trafford, he could be teammates with Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, re-visiting old times at FC Porto.

In conclusion, Diogo Costa’s potential move to Manchester United would be a significant coup for the Red Devils. While they may have to pay a hefty fee to secure his services, the 23-year-old’s impressive form this season suggests that he could be worth every penny.

If he can replicate his performances at Old Trafford, he could be the long-term solution to Manchester United’s goalkeeper problem.
